Stop procrastinating: hypnosis can help

Ready to find that motivation and get things done again….?

The deadline is looming. You know it is there but you just can’t focus. The house has never been cleaner, even the windows are gleaming and the cupboards reorganised. Still that deadline is there and nothing has been done, the ideas haven’t flowed or appeared and motivation seems to have disappeared somewhere.

Procrastination and writer’s block are extremely common. It feels like the ideas just aren’t coming, the motivation to “do” what needs to be done has gone, and all there is instead is a big need to either do something else (anything else!) or just nothing.

Knowing how to regain control over this automated avoidance behaviour or response means understanding what it is you are avoiding. For many who experience this it could be:

  • an underlying anxiety about not being able to do the task as well as you would like, or

  • perhaps a fear of being judged or criticised by others, or

  • you might be experiencing “imposter syndrome” about the task at hand.

Hypnosis is an effective tool for addressing underlying anxieties like these that can erode our confidence to do what we need to and create blocks to change or to getting things done. Through hypnotherapy you can learn the skills and tools that will help you to create new neural pathways and open the way for new active choices you are in control of, gain confidence in how you make choices and in how you respond to different situations.

In clients I have worked with to help with their procrastination habits it has also often been about helping to see the task differently. Finding different ways of breaking down the task from what seems like a huge daunting activity or outcome into smaller, more realistic steps. You don’t bake a cake by suddenly throwing all the things together into a bowl in the same second and saying “all done now”. You follow a recipe, step by step, adding one thing then the next.

Interestingly, what clients have found (and I have found for myself!) as each little step is completed it generates more energy towards taking on the next until the work is done. Just knowing progress is being made can be very rewarding and motivating.

Self hypnosis and using recordings can be effective their own but many people find that person-centred, individually tailored hypnotherapy programs can be a good way to learn the tools and skills in a way that meets their specific and unique needs/situation. If you need a specialised and tailored approach to support you to address your procrastination and writer’s block so you can get things done book a 15min session with Nami Hypnotherapy to have a chat about the kind of program that might work for you.
